9th Annual Upper Mississippi River Conference
October 13, 2016 @ 7:00 am - October 14, 2016 @ 2:00 pm
The Q2030 plan recognizes the Mississippi River is a unique Quad Cities amenity that offers the single most transformative opportunity for signature, high-profile cultural, recreational and commercial development that will be magnets for people and national attention.
Stakeholder, experts and policymakers will convene in the Quad Cities at the 9th annual Upper Mississippi River Conferencehosted by River Action on Oct. 13-14 to discuss strategies for improving seven sectors of the river system that includes the Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa rivers, along with scores of other freshwater sources. Participants from across the country will develop a response to the 2015 Report Card for America’s Watershed that gave the entire Mississippi River a “D+” and the Upper Mississippi a “C.”
Attendees will hear from Dr. Heath Kelsey of the University of Maryland, who worked with America’s Watershed Initiative to develop the Report Card and who has worked on several similar report cards for coastal and inland aquatic systems around the world. Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos and Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey are also scheduled to speak at the event.
