A message from Q2030 Director, Greg Aguilar

Alisha Espey | November 1st, 2018

18 years ago we were wrapping up the year 2000, it does not seem that long ago yet here we are. So much has happened in the last 18 years.

Back in 2000, smart phones did not exist, yet today they have become our greatest personal communication tool that has normalized the selfie and can turn anyone into a producer, director, and star. Radio shows are back but are now called podcasts. Retail giants are disappearing, Wi-Fi is a necessity, we have become more environmentally conscious, and we no longer smoke in restaurants.

I start to think back even further, 12 years before the year 2000. In 1988 where some businesses allowed you to smoke at your desk but you had to put on your suit coat before you left your office and fax machines were a more economical way to communicate with friends, families, and business associates around the world. So much can happen over 12 years time.

With all that said, in 12 short years we will be in the year 2030 and we can expect more change to happen between now and then. What we do today will have a significant impact on what we become. Through collaborating with our neighboring communities and through diversifying our networks we can hit all of our goals in becoming a more cool, creative, connected, and prosperous region.

As we launch this new newsletter, you can expect to read stories of Quad Citizens who are making it here in the Quad Cities and examples of Q2030 in action. We hope through this communication you will find inspiration to keep moving our region forward and be the change you want to see. We look forward to sharing your stories and lifting you up.

You can access the content archive of all the newsletter stories here. Happy reading!
